The SS/TC engine is still around today in various stages of factory tune including Cadillac and Camaro 4 cylinder. Never was meant to be eit hr, unlike the SS/TC that was a full overall performer. But you’d need a FBO, k04 and 375 whp in the ST to run with a FBO stock turbo SS/TC. The SS/TC was next in 2008, replacing the weak Supercharged SS. The first Cobalt SS (later renamed the Cobalt Sport) featured a not-so-special 2.4-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder. The same engine was in the Saturn Sky Redline and Solstice GXP, and those two were the first DI cars to the states in 2005. It was the first DI to the states, since the car and motor were in service in Europe 6 yrs earlier. Overall, that took it to 350 hp crank/350 tq. NA Intercooler upgrade to keep it making power instead of power falling off (Intercoolers do not add power), a dp, added 10 hp, a K&N drop in panel filter made 4 hp, and 160 T stat helped it stay cooler. 24-26psi tune on a fully stock car put it to 315-320 hp. The Ko4 in the SS made all the difference. But then he SS would pull slowly away above 125. Stg 3 put the ST even with the stock SS/TC. Then I did Stg 1, still got smoked, then Stg 2, beat but not quite smoked, close to being smoked again though. I sold the SS/TC to a friend and got another runabout toy, a 14’ ST Foc and we ran stock for stock. His 370z auto and my SS could run even to 60 or so, 5.4 sec, then my SS/TC would pull about a half a car through the 1/4, mph vs his mph. The SS also had a slalom speed equal to a 2008 C6 Z06, impressive since the SS/TC was made, tuned and honed on the Nurburgring in Europe. When they don’t have the proper pressure, they can’t run properly. Modern fuel injected engines need a lot of fuel pressure to keep running.
